Bart Evans Snapp, a 1996 graduate of Grandview Heights High School, received his Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics from the University of Illinois on May 13th, 2007. His thesis is titled "Generalized Local Cohomology and the Canonical Element Conjecture." His basic area of study has been Commutative Ring Theory under the supervision of Professor S. P. Dutta. At the same graduation ceremony, Bart received a Master of Science in the Teaching of Mathematics. While at the University of Illinois he showed strong dedication to teaching excellence and in 2006 won the Brahana TA Instructional Award for his teaching. In addition, Bart wrote an open-source textbook that is being used for undergraduate students at the University of Illinois to teach the course "Math 119: Ideas in Geometry."
Bart received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics with honors from the Ohio State University in 2001. At OSU as an undergraduate, he was an assistant in the computer calculus series and did online math mentoring. He played baritone in the Ohio State University Marching Band. While at OSU, he met his future wife, Lisa.
Bart has accepted a tenure-track position in mathematics at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC.
It was a very nice ceremony. They had a group of musicians who performed before it got started. I honestly don't remember if they played anything by Edward Elgar--maybe they did.
We are very proud of Bart.
